And here is a basic information about how to cure heartburn!
Many people suffer from mild acid reflux. While the problem can become serious and require medical attention, taking action and learning how to stop heartburn can stop this minor inconvenience from turning into a bigger problem. These lifestyle changes are often effective.
Lose weight. Many times the problem is due to excess belly fat that presses against the stomach. If a person eats a huge meal and then lies back in a recliner to watch television for the rest of the evening, the belly fat presses against the organ forcing acid back into the esophagus. This leads to the burning sensation in the chest.
Eat smaller meals. When people eat large meals they may ingest food at a rate much quicker than their stomach is able to process it. The human stomach capacity is approximately one quart. If the person inhales large amounts of food in a short amount of time, his or her stomach acid is displaced into the esophagus resulting in that familiar burning sensation.
On the average, it takes four to five hours for a stomach to empty after a meal. If a person heads out for a late meal, comes home and heads directly to bed, stomach acid is more likely to leak out of the full stomach. If meals are consumed at least three hours before bedtime, half the meal will have passed from the stomach before lying down, reducing the likelihood of a problem.
Watch what you eat. Foods that are heavy in tomatoes, chocolate or caffeine may make the problem worse. Avoid foods that are high in fat, as they can cause the body to create additional acid. Citrus fruits and other foods that are highly acidic can also add to the problem. While many of these foods are good for humans, it is especially important that they be avoided at the evening meal.
Alcohol causes the muscles in the body to relax. In addition to the skeletal muscles, alcohol can cause the muscle closing off the esophagus from the stomach to relax and allow stomach acid to leak.
Water is necessary for proper digestion of food, but if the stomach is already over filled with food, be cautious about adding large amounts of water that could force acid out of the stomach.
While learning how to stop heartburn with lifestyle changes is often helpful for those who suffer mild cases, persons that suffer symptoms more than twice per week may be suffering from GERD, which can become a serious medical condition. If symptoms are constant or getting worse despite lifestyle changes, the sufferer should speak with a doctor.
